The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have released new guidance noting that many traditional Halloween activities can be high risk for spread the Covid 19 virus. The CDC experts recommend completely avoiding street and door-to- door trick-or-treating especially when children are handed treats directly from another persons. Also, crowded indoor events such as costume parties, haunted houses and movie nights are considered high risk as well.
As a result of this guidance Palmas del Mar will not be allowing the traditional street trick-or-treat door to door activities in our neighborhoods nor will PHA be hosting its traditional children’s costume party and Halloween show.
Instead, PHA is planning a drive through type of activity where parents may take children in a golf cart through a drive-though display in the PHA parking and collect their treats. This activity will be held on October 31st from 4:00 to 6:00 pm behind the PHA building. The wear of face masks, even while staying in the golf carts, will be required to participate in this activity.
Regarding mask-wearing, CDC advises that a costume mask is not a substitute for a cloth mask. A costume mask should not be used unless it is made of two or more layers of breathable fabric that covers the mouth and nose and does not leave gaps around the face. People should not wear a costume mask over a protective cloth mask as the costume ask may make it harder to breathe. Also, CDC recommends trick-or-treat activities be replaced with individual family activities such as pumpkin carving and individual indoor family scavenger hunts.
